Playing for fun, writing originals, preparing covers and performing at events involve different commitments. Talk about what you want from the band before looking for people only by instrument.
Pick a few musical references and a realistic rehearsal frequency. Leave room for new members to bring ideas: references should start a conversation, not fix the band’s identity.
2. Find members with compatible goals
Search by city, instrument and style. Read profiles, listen to videos and make a specific proposal. Similar experience can help, but availability, communication and willingness to learn also matter.
- Which instruments are already covered and which are missing?
- Which days and times can each person commit to?
- Where can you rehearse and how will costs be shared?
3. Make the first rehearsal small and specific
Agree on two songs, a reference version and the key. Confirm the room, time and available equipment. At the rehearsal, focus on listening to each other and finish with a decision about the next step.
A first rehearsal also helps you see whether the group works well together. If expectations differ, talk respectfully. It is better to adjust the project early than accumulate commitments that are hard to keep.
